Disclosure: some links in this post are affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What Is Kit (ConvertKit)?

Kit is an email marketing platform built for creators. Until recently it was called ConvertKit. Same company, new name.

It's made for bloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, authors, coaches, and course creators. You use it to grow an email list, send newsletters, and set up automated emails. You can also sell digital products and paid newsletters right inside it.

Kit says more than 550,000 creator business owners use it.

Here's what you get:

  • Unlimited landing pages, forms, and email broadcasts, even on the free plan
  • Tagging and segmentation to organize subscribers
  • Visual Automations and email sequences on paid plans
  • Recommendations, where creators recommend each other's newsletters to grow faster
  • Digital product sales and paid newsletters
  • Integrations with tools like Canva, Zapier, Shopify, WordPress, and Linktree
  • Free migration from other email platforms

How Does Kit Work?

For Users

  1. Sign up for the free plan, or start a 14-day free trial of a paid plan. No credit card needed.
  2. Build a landing page or signup form to start collecting subscribers.
  3. Send broadcasts to your list whenever you have something to share.
  4. On a paid plan, set up a welcome sequence and automations that run on their own.
  5. Sell digital products or a paid newsletter as your audience grows.

For Affiliates

  1. Apply to the Kit Affiliate Program. Applications and logins run through PartnerStack.
  2. Get your affiliate link once you're approved.
  3. Share it in reviews, tutorials, and creator guides.
  4. Earn 50% commission for 12 months on every paying customer you refer.
  5. Refer 10 or more paying customers a year to unlock ongoing recurring commission after that first year.

Kit Pricing

Kit prices its paid plans by the number of subscribers you have. The prices below are what its pricing page shows for 1,000 subscribers, billed yearly.

Plan Price Best for / what's included
Free $0 Beginners. Up to 10,000 subscribers, 1 user, unlimited landing pages, forms, and broadcasts, and selling digital products.
Creator $33/month, billed yearly ($390/year) Growing creators. Unlimited automations and sequences, 2 users, SMS, integrations, Kit branding removed, 24/7 support.
Pro From $66/month, billed yearly Established creators. Unlimited users, Subscriber Signals, advanced analytics, deliverability reporting, A/B testing, newsletter referral system.

Kit says paying yearly saves around 17%. It was also running a limited-time discount on Pro's first year when I checked. Prices go up as your list grows.

Always check Kit's pricing page for current numbers. Plans change.

Who Should Use Kit?

Kit is a good fit if you're a creator and email is how you stay in touch with your audience.

It works well for:

  • Bloggers and affiliate marketers starting their first list
  • YouTubers and podcasters who want to own their audience
  • Newsletter writers who want to grow through recommendations
  • Creators selling ebooks, templates, or paid newsletters

Who might skip it? If you run an online store or a sales team that needs a full CRM, Kit isn't built for that. A tool with deeper sales features will serve you better.

Kit vs Alternatives

There are plenty of email tools. Here's how Kit compares to a few I've reviewed.

Tool Strength Best for Extras beyond email
Kit Simple email built for creators Bloggers, YouTubers, newsletter writers Digital products, paid newsletters, Recommendations
AWeber Simple, beginner-friendly email Bloggers and small businesses Landing pages and basic automation
GetResponse Email plus funnels and webinars Creators wanting an all-in-one Landing pages, funnels, webinars, courses
ActiveCampaign Deep automation and CRM Businesses with complex follow-up CRM and sales automation

If you want another beginner-friendly option, read my AWeber review. If you'd like webinars and funnels too, see my GetResponse review. And if automation is your top priority, check my ActiveCampaign review.

Which one is best? The one that fits how you actually create.

How to Make Money with Kit as an Affiliate

The Kit Affiliate Program pays 50% commission for 12 months on every paying customer you refer. In other words, you earn half of what they pay Kit in their first year.

After that first year, Kit adds recurring commission based on how many paying customers you refer each year:

  • Base (starting tier): 50% for 12 months
  • Bronze (10+ referrals a year): plus 10% ongoing after each customer's first 12 months
  • Silver (50+ referrals a year): plus 15% ongoing
  • Gold (100+ referrals a year): plus 20% ongoing

The ongoing commission applies to referred customers from January 1, 2024 onward who stay with Kit beyond 12 months. Referrals from paid ads, like pay-per-click, don't count toward your tier.

The program runs on PartnerStack. If you haven't used it before, my PartnerStack review walks you through it. Kit's page doesn't list a cookie length, payout schedule, or minimum payout, so check those in your dashboard.

Why promote Kit? Because creators need a list, and many of them start with a free plan and upgrade as they grow. You can sign up for Kit free and build real tutorials from your own account.
